Conference Rules and Information

Rules and Regulations

  • This conference will be following parliamentary procedure, as other Model United Nations conferences do. We will be using the rules set by National Model United Nations.

  • Dress for this conference is Western Business Attire. For boys, this means a suit and tie and for girls, this means a pant-suit or skirt/dress.

  • Any form of sexual harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated, and UMBC Model UN reserves the right to expel any delegate without compensation if it is brought to the Dias. Examples of what constitutes as sexual harassment can be found here.

  • Pre-written resolutions will not be tolerated, and if brought attention to the Dias, the delegate will be ineligible for awards.

  • Position papers are not required, but are strongly suggested, as they will help build the understanding and research of your students country. If your school decides to bring position papers, they are due to the Dias at the beginning of the first session.

Awards Criteria

  • Awards will consist of Best Large Delegation and Best Small Delegation among the entire conference, and Best and Outstanding delegate within committees. ​

  • Awards will be decided based on

    • Staying in Country Character​

    • Participation in committee

    • Proper use of rules of procedure

Meal Accommodations

  • Breakfast will be assorted pastries, and lunch will be assorted sandwiches from Subway. Please email gritmun@gmail.com if your students will need any gluten free, vegetarian,  vegan, halal or kosher substitutes​ and we will be more than happy to accommodate.
